It is classified among the science of "character reading". Graphology has been used for a long time to interpret character and personality traits. Indeed because of this graphology has been used historically in forensic sciences and psychology to understand the subjects subconscious.
The human subconscious manifests itself in a variety of ways, for some art is one way of expressing. Indeed handwriting is the most widely interface between the subconscious and
the world- Graphology captures that. Although widely disagreed some people believe that one can change there personality traits by changing their handwriting. This is called graphotherapy is at a contrast from graphology.
So does this mean ones handwriting can be used to understand anyone's mind- friend, sibling or a close one? Just by looking at ones "y's" and "g's" you can determine a lot. Now here is an example - write "graphology" on a piece of paper and compare your "y's" and "g's" with the ones below:

This one states that you are socially selective. Using graphology we know that long narrow loops point to that.

Using graphology we can see the physical frustration in this individual. How do I know that? Incomplete lower loops give that away.

Long wide loops point towards strong physical drives and variety- intimacy, sports etc. The exagerrated lower loops going down in the lower zones point to that.

And finally using graphology we know that this individual needs aggression as an outlet. Hard right upstrokes point to that. Stay away!!

Above are just a few examples where we can use graphology to understand the human subconscious.
